Up to 95% solvent recovery reduces waste, risk, and costs. 13 July 2022
A heightened awareness of health and safety issues, and the need to protect our environment, are driving interest in solvent recycling.
ALMAX Technical Product Consultant Denys Bishop says companies in the automotive paint industry and OEMs, have been quick to appreciate the advantages of Italian designed and manufactured IST recyclers. Denys says the superbly engineered units enable solvents to be re-used multiple times, massively reducing waste. “Up to 95% of solvent is typically recovered while pigments and other contaminants are removed and can be safely disposed of.”
“The process turns what would be a potentially hazardous waste product into something that is useable.” Denys says the solvent doesn’t degrade during recycling and is and commonly used again for tasks including cleaning painting equipment, reducing solvent purchase costs.
The IST 10L, 15L and 25L solvent recyclers suit small to medium businesses are the most popular in the range. Durable and reliable the units are time and temperature adjustable and fully compliant with New Zealand requirements.
Using recyclers means the days of storing containers of used solvent on the premises are gone. This frees up space, creates a better, healthier working environment, and removes a significant fire hazard which can result in loss of insurance on top of building or property damage. Recycling is also a cost-effective and time saving alternative to contracting out solvent removal to an authorised hazardous goods company.
ALMAX recommends that the space efficient IST units are located in a well-ventilated area and that the usual PPE is worn when filling or emptying the recycler. Other than that, operation is as easy as checking the timing and temperature settings and flipping a switch. The recycler will hum along quietly, unattended, until the process is completed.
Residue is collected in specially designed liner bags for disposal. Replacement liner bags are available from ALMAX.
