Selena Templer began her Guthrie Bowron career around 20 years ago when she saw a job advertised at Guthrie Bowron Gore.  “It seemed interesting, and it’s evolved from there!”

Today, she is a Guthrie Bowron stalwart with two thriving stores opened in 2006 (Cromwell), and 2022 (Alexandra). Also opening Wanaka in 2016 and selling in 2019.

Selena says she is very hands on “I do a bit of everything really, we have flooring, curtains, blinds, paint, wallpaper and decorating accessories”. She relishes this aspect of her work something which she says is only made possible by the great people alongside her. “I couldn’t do any of this without them.”

“I really enjoy our team environment, along with being part of the franchise, and working with suppliers. It’s been a chance to get to know and be involved with some really good people.”

“The support from Guthrie Bowron is great! There are 50-odd other stores around the country so there’s always someone you can call on for advice and information.”

Selena says her two GB stores are very different in terms of customers’ primary decorating needs. Burgeoning stone fruit capital Cromwell has mostly new builds while in the historic gold mining town of Alexandra, just 25 minutes’ drive away, renovation rules. 

She says it’s particularly satisfying to be part of making homeowner’s dreams become reality. “It’s always nice to know we’ve made a difference by helping people put together their ideas for decorating their home and seeing their satisfaction in using the products.”

Selena has also put her knowledge to good use over the years in her own home.

Asked for her top ALMAX product picks, Selena says she is a particular fan of the Wooster range and Razor Tape, along with appreciating the service.
